Active MJP Web Apps Projects
| User Registry |
Front end elements already exist here. A back end,
based on
User Registration interfaces, is needed, possibly via
single sign-on logic, and/or
a web service. |
| Meeting Registration |
(new) Craig leads this, a planned extension of mainejug.org,
at the SourceForge site. His software may be used a least
partially in the project described above. |
| Email Notification of News |
The old JugNews
is being replaced with project-specific guestbook pages triggering email. It
will also alert project teams as visitors leave comments. |
| Special Interest Metadata |
Java containers for
Interests are now being evaluated. These are essentially O-O, XML-database managers
whose formal schemas can support inference engines. |
| JUG Meeting Topics |
(new) A UI for David's off-line tally system is being testing
to solicit membership help on selecting future JUG topics and
finding or attracting speakers.
|
| Surveys of Visitors |
A more general future mechanism for the queries above,
driven by XML files, is described by Jason at
Surveys |
| Java Standard Tag Libs |
(new) This excellent upgrade to JSPs, which seems to offer
a Java-specific alternative to XSLT and other benefits. |
| Boothnet |
This tag-and-template framework displays all /project/ pages and
imports JSPs from the (open) MJP-VTS tag set. The older 2.2
/projects/ web app
lists additional projects. |
Suggested but Not Active
Projects to Further Enhance VTS
| Google Searches |
VTS began as a community service project to build a good
Showcase for student Java developers - a continuing goal.
In such a Showcase, index & contact pages must be easy to find.
|
| Core VTS |
The main pure-Java needs at this point are a User Registry
back end, and a project-specific
File Uploader that lets each registered project team leader
upload web apps and/or components for testing. |
| Mesda Virtual Trade Show |
The first VTS site was built with help from other Mesda groups
and supportive members, under plans to find new
Sponsors for a MESDA-branded 2.0 site. |
| Site Policies |
Suppliers of VTS software, in theory, may offer their exhibits
for sale. MESDA's VTS 2.0 will make a good promotion site for them.
But the policies on this, privacy, licensing, and other business
aspects of any community site need finalizing. |
| RecordSet Publication |
We need strategic design help on deciding how to
best import data from
other web sites. (Exporting it, given servlets, is
far less of a practical problem.) |
Every qualifying project will get an expandable booth all its own -
with secure Java-based booth-admin
tools. Use them to show off executable demos, make
progress reports to JUG, collect feedback, and attract new members.
What does it take to qualify? Just an idea sponsored by one MJP Projects
manager, plus a project leader for your team who is registered in MJP,
and makes monthly progress reports. This time, instead of updates
by email, each team getting a booth can adjust its pages directly to keep them
current, and/or use its guestbook to collect
feedback (or data) from willing visitors.
