Google-based Searches
In late 2002, Google continues doing innovative things.
Eric Schmidt, the CEO/geek who once ran Java R&D at Sun, has
a tiger by the tail. His expansive business directions are
reflected in three trends VTS hopes to exploit:
#1: Google has been enormously successful in late 2002
with their
adwords technology, one that almost competes at grassroots
levels with EBay.
#2: They are also pushing web services
in ways that invite groups like ours to get involved hands-on, and to
use their technology in customized new ways.
#3: They are a media-buzz magnet. People who follow such things
sense the
path along which they are heading. (Read only in IE.)
A good MeJUG project would be to download the tools cited under #2,
try to use them for a personalized search agent, and report their potential
to get Google (and VTS pages) moving well in that direction.
