JUG Meeting Topics
The first key steps taken here were by David Ezzio, who created an off-line
Vote Tally program for the desired-topic surveys, which he passed
out at JUG meetings, then adjusted after each tally. Then, at the
JUG manager's meeting of June '02, he suggested more might be needed,
and later summarized our discussion:
.. We were
undecided about the optimal stratagies for finding MaineJug speakers.
We did agree that our objective was to satisfy member's requests for
presentations on topics as indicated by the votes and tallying
algorithm. It was suggested that the process of gathering information
about what our members wanted to hear could be improved, but we agreed
that it was more important to find a way to satisfy the members'
desires as we now know them.
.. We thought of two strategies to recruit speakers
more methodically. One strategy was to start using our members more
to find speakers for the topics that they would like to hear. We are
planning to try a personalized mailing in this endeavor.
The second strategy is to publish on the web the topic list that our
members are interested in. In essence, this is advertising for
speakers to fill those topics. This will also tie in with allowing
members who are not at meetings to vote, and it may allow for more
discussion about the topic.
This project responds to both new strategies, by publishing the
latest topic list and helping capture public feedback on related
ideas. But we invite your ideas by any channel, including private
emails.
