Standard Tag Library
The new JSTL
standard is a vast improvement over the previous ad hoc collection
of syntax and duct tape making up JSP pages, and currently the
preferred means of publishing Java projects at this site.
JSTL as a scripting language still suffers from the oververbose
XML syntax in which its embedded, but the designers have used it
to excellent advantage with EL, a sub-language for attributes.
The combination seems as clean and tight as any scripting language
on the planet, far better documented, and no harder to learn.
This project seeks to make the JSTL learning process simpler yet,
by providing concrete training resources and working examples that
show JSLT in action, but with a twist. Unlike the made-up examples
in
the books, these will be directly used at this web site, and
will consist partly of helpful new on-line tools for creating and
publically sharing JSLT scripts within any of its project areas.
There are several ways this can be done, and room for several
people to get involved as an email-based design group. Email
Dan to sign up, then take a lead in introducing your colleagues
(and boss!) to the new Java niche for interactive web based UI.
